There was once a Faqir who was loved by all. Like anyone who is loved, he was disliked by a few. To prove that he was frivolous, they paid a few courtesans to seduce the Faqir and invited the town to witness his downfall. As these women were considered of questionable character, the people who were watching were aghast as they saw the Faqir welcome these courtesans with the same love and compassion as he would to anyone else. The courtesans announced that they had come to give him pleasure through the talent of their dance and music. The Faqir said, why not if God has sent you to me then who am I to refuse. Some of the courtesans broke into a sensuous dance as the others played the most beautiful exhilarating music and sang the most erotic songs. The Faqir seemed to be delighted, much to the dismay of those who were silently watching and loved him. As the dance progressed, the courtesans began stripping. This seemed to further excite the faqir. First, the veils came off, then the jewelry. to the horror of the townspeople, the Faqir started shouting in ecstasy, Yes! Yes! Take it off.
Soon the courtesans stood naked in front of the Faqir with no more things to take off. They began approaching the Faqir. But the faqir yelled, no don’t stop, take it off. Take it off, I want to see what is within. The courtesans laughed and said the faqir had lost his mind. But the Faqir stopped them and said before you come towards me, strip it all off. I long to be in union with what you hide. Wipe off these paints on your body, discard your flesh and bones, discard these fake, limiting identities you are stuck to, your body size, your body type, the color of your skin, take off your past, present, fears, and dreams. Take off all of these & let me see what is inside. Bring into the light that is hidden under all these things that can be discarded.
